Summary: Working under general supervision, the truck driver operates a tractor trailer, and vehicles with GW of over 32,000 pounds. May also operate vehicles over state and county roads and city streets in all types of traffic conditions. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Operating truck tractor or truck and full trailer combination -Coupling and uncoupling the truck tractor and semi-trailer, and connecting and disconnecting the air brakes and electrical lines with up to 35 ton load capacity on the installation and on public roads and highways. -At highway speeds, transporting equipment and other materials; maneuvering vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing in narrow or congested areas between buildings; Operating vehicles on various roadways systems, encountering various traffic signals, multiple types of intersections, sharp curves and manipulating the duel braking system to prevent jack knifing; selecting the safest most direct routes to travel and identify alternate routes in emergency situations -Loading trucks and ensures proper weight distribution; oversee and participate in the unloading operation at the destination -Performing operator maintenance to ensure that vehicles are in a safe, efficient and presentable operating condition in compliance with established policies -Completing trip tickets and other administrative forms required (i.e., driver sheets, accident forms, etc.) -Performing other duties as assigned; may be required to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends and holidays Qualifications and Experience: Must possess: -At least 3-5 years OTR verifiable work experience -A CDL Class A with airbrakes -A current DOT Physical and a good DMV abstract must be able to: -Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure -Read and comprehend simple instruction -Estimate height, weight, width and length of the vehicle -Meet physical demands including: reaching, twisting, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls, especially when backing vehicles. -Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception Must have: -knowledge of state and local safety and traffic rules and regulations for operating vehicles -skill in defensive driving techniques -skill in recognizing developing hazardous road and traffic conditions -ability to understand the operator's manual for assigned vehicles Work Environment: -Will work with co-drivers at any given time -Will be outdoors in all kinds of traffic and weather conditions on public roads on or off the installation and exposed to heavy traffic. -Will be exposed to heavy traffic, dirt and fumes when operating the vehicles -Will be subject to limited visibility while backing or maneuvering vehicle in heavy traffic and in close quarters -Will have regular exposure to the outdoors including both extreme cold and hot weather
