Truck Driver Job in Charleston, South Carolina

Essential Functions: -Inspect both tractor and trailer/chassis according to the North American Inspection Standard. -Backing units of varying length into docks, some of which may be blind-side or tight/cramped. -Coupling and uncoupling. -Interacting with the gates, both in & out, in the ports in which we operate. -Interacting with port personnel to obtain chassis equipment and import/export/reefer containers. -Driving safely at all times. Basic Requirements: -Must continuously meet Federal DOT and local standard requirements. -Must be able to complete accurately and legibly all written logs and all paperwork, documentation and reports required by federal DOT. -Hold a class “A” CDL. -3 years of recent, verifiable truck driving experience. -No more than 2 moving violations & 1 accident in the last three years & NO DWI.(must provide a 10-year Motor Vehicle Record [MVR] dated within the last 30 days) -All employment information must be verifiable or easily obtained/explained. -Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential – TWIC card. -Hazardous Materials endorsement on CDL is a plus, but not a necessity. Competencies: -Computer use for time clock and in cab communication -Decision making -Communication is a must -Patience -Good use of time Supervisory Responsibilities: -This position has no supervisory responsibility Work Environment: -Requires work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions deemed safe. Physical Demands: -While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. -This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. -The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. -Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: -This is a full-time position. -Requires flexible starting and ending times each day based on the task(s) assigned, customer needs and hours of port operation. -Requires some weekend work. -Requires some overnight stays out of the area.
